Jessica Swinton – Orchard Lake Hockey Director of Power Skating

As the owner of Swinton Power Jess has developed her curriculum to enrich the lives of others through sport. For the past 12 years, she has dedicated herself to a career of strong athletic and educational acumens. After becoming a Professional Figure Skater, Jess graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Physical Education and Coaching from Grand Valley State University (GCSU). She continued her education through Fresno Pacific University receiving a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Higher Education. Jess was a Professor at GVSU within the Movement Science Department when she realized her eventual dream was to take her education to the ice and develop a program for hockey players to achieve their ultimate potential. Having been a very fast skater herself, Jess knew she had so much experience and knowledge to be shared by developing power within athletes.

Jess's ultimate goal has always been to be a strong example for the athletes. The only way to do that was to put herself through the physical and educational demands that are necessary to being the owner of Swinton Power. Along this journey, Jess additionally became a Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor, Flexibility Coach, and Director at various on ice programs, including the Learn To Skate and Learn to Play programs at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Athletic Complex. Her continuous self-development is a direct reflection of the energy and technique she brings to the ice.

Jess’ experience with training hockey players at all levels (Mini-Mite (6U) through Professional), has taught her to apply techniques for athletes to develop explosive power and enhance the use of the blade through difficult edge work and transitions. Her focus on stride analysis when instructing helps skaters to harness their power.
